Chinese man, cohort arrested for robbery-extortion in Parañaque City
A Chinese national and his Filipino security escort were arrested by police after they tried to extort money from a Malaysian man in exchange for the return of his stolen cellphone in Parañaque City on Oct. 21.
The Southern Police District (SPD) said Parañaque City police chief Col. Reycon Garduque reported that suspects "Zhide" and "Jhun-Jhun" were arrested in an entrapment operation.
The suspects were nabbed at around 12:24 a.m. at Okada Manila Resort Hotel located at New Seaside Drive, Entertainment City, Parañaque after a Malaysian national filed a complaint.
According to the police report, the Malaysian identified as "Lim" went to the police to file a complaint against two men who allegedly mauled him outside the Okada Manila Resort Hotel on Oct. 19 and took his cellular phone.
The police said two days after the mauling incident, the victim went back to report that an unidentified suspect contacted him asking for P50,000 in exchange for his stolen phone.
The police immediately conducted an entrapment operation leading to the arrest of the suspects.
Recovered from them was the Huawei Mate 40 Pro cellular phone of the victim.
The suspects were immediately detained at the police custodial facility after their arrest.
Robbery-extortion charges were filed against them.
