MANILA (PNA) — The National Disaster Coordinating Council (NDCC) said it has not monitored any damage incurred from the earthquake that rocked a big portion of the country Saturday morning.

“There is no damage. Although it's 6.1 magnitude, there are no reported damages in the Cotabato City areas,” said NDCC Executive Officer and concurrent Office of Civil Defense Administrator Benito Ramos.

“We have people there (monitoring). It's just a little shake and it did not cause damage. We did not even see cracks (on structures),” added Ramos. “No damages but (we’re) expecting aftershocks.”

Quoting a report from the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs), Ramos said intensity 4 quakes were felt in Tanjay City and San Jose in Negros Oriental, while intensity 2 tremors were recorded in Cotabato City, Kidapawan City, Dipolog City, Tacloban City, Davao City, Legazpi City, Cagayan de Oro City, Cebu City, Dumaguete City, Manila, and Antipolo City.

Based on information provided by Phivolcs Director Renato Solidum, Ramos said: “There will be no tsunamis as the earthquakes are very deep, 600 kilometers, and the intensity of the shaking was not damaging.”

He added that the "tsunami alert level remains zero.” (PNA)
