Former Miss Universe and Miss USA winners and a pageant judge defended former Miss Universe President Paula Shugart from allegations of corrupt practices during her 23-year term with the pageant organization.

Among those who expressed their support for Paula were Miss Universe 2010 Ximena Navarette, Miss Universe 1991 Lupita Jones, Miss Universe 1997 Brooke Lee, Miss Universe 2002 Justine Pasek, Miss Universe 2016 Iris Mittenaere, Miss USA titleholders Olivia Jordan (2015), Suzie Castillo (2003), and Nia Sanchez (2014); and Miss Universe 2018 judge Sazan Hendrix.

Shugart said she is considering legal action against Miss Universe owner Anne Jakrajutatip.

In a lengthy post on Facebook on Feb. 19, Shugart said Jakrajutatip defamed her and discredited the women who have won the Miss Universe crown by implying their titles were “bought” and not earned by merit.

Shugart also said she "cannot abide by such dangerous and reckless assertions, which degrade the Miss Universe brand and its titleholders." Her full post:
