Energy drink Extra Joss and Jericho Rosales opened 2010 with an inspiring and heartfelt gesture as they recently awarded each of the three recipients of the Extra Joss Gintong Kamao Awards a total of P500,000 in life-changing prizes. This includes cash, Extra Joss trolley cart business, appliances and computer showcase, a business make-over package for their individual livelihoods, and a pension program, since the Gintong Kamao awardees are all self-employed.

The Extra Joss Gintong Kamao Awards is an annual advocacy event that aims to pay tribute and honor the countless working class Filipino heroes. This pioneering award seeks to promote the dignity of Filipino working class heroes. Moreover, the Extra Joss Gintong Kamao Awards motivates and inspires other working class heroes to be an Extra Joss Gintong Kamao.

The first recipients of the Extra Joss Gintong Kamao Awards are Fulgencio Lanuzo, a mechanic from Mandaluyong who has a son with a degree in B.S. Computer Science; Danilo Matienzo, a tricycle driver from Pasig who has a daughter with a degree in B.S. Psychology; and Danilo Torres, a coconut vendor from Malabon who has a son with a degree in B.S. Computer Science. These hard-working men are honored for their hard work and perseverance that are worthy of emulation. These awardees have one thing in common: Through their hard work and perseverance at least one of their children finished college.

In giving this award, Extra Joss and Jericho Rosales recognize the many struggles and sacrifices of all working class heroes. These heroes face the challenge of poverty by means of a decent, honest, and honorable living for the betterment and bright future of their individual families.

Jericho Rosales, the brand ambassador of Extra Joss, epitomizes the ideal Gintong Kamao awardee since he himself was a proud part of working class Filipinos prior to his successful career in showbiz. In his teens, Jericho worked as a fish vendor and pizza delivery boy. Jericho’s immense struggle with poverty in the early part of his life fueled his ambition to rise above it through faith in God, hard work, the extra strength of both body and mind, and extra determination.

In line with this on-going advocacy, Extra Joss and Jericho Rosales will soon launch the nationwide search for the 2010 Extra Joss Gintong Kamao Awards.
