QC residents to benefit from institutionalized bus program - Mayor Joy
Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte on Sunday, June 4, said that she is expecting more citizens to benefit from the Q City Bus Program, after it was institutionalized as one of the city’s programs for public transportation.
The program, which was established in 2020 to provide free rides for residents and workers in the city amid the Covid-19 pandemic, became part of city government-managed public transportation program after the mayor signed City Ordinance No. SP-3184, S-2023, in April this year.
The Q City Bus Program aims to provide safety, convenience, and comfort to commuters through special bus routes (with pick-up and drop-off points) within the city, according to the local government.
The city government said that the program already catered 14.6 million passengers along eight routes since it was established.
“Ngayong pinagtibay na ang ating Q City Bus Program sa pamamagitan ng isang Ordinansa, umaasa ako na marami pang QCitizens ang makikinabang sa programang ito (Now that the Q City Bus Program has been strengthened through an ordinance, I expect that more QCitizens will benefit from the program),” Belmonte said.
She added that the program is also a big help for the QCitizens in managing their daily transportation expenses.
Under the ordinance, the Transportation and Management Division of the Quezon City Traffic and Transport Management Department (TTMD) is assigned to supervise the operation and further development of the public transportation program.
“The implementation, supervision, operation, and further development of the Q City Bus Program shall be guided by the principles of environmental sustainability, ecological balance, sustainable technological innovation, good governance, and accountability, and the best interest of the constituents of Quezon City,” the city government said.
