When I found out that Angono painter and sculptor Nemi Miranda will have his art exhibit this coming Feb. 20 on the 6th floor of the KMC One Ayala in Makati, I finally had the guts to travel to Angono and ask for a one-on-one interview with one of our future national artists in visual arts.
I vividly remember when I was in high school at Poveda, I would often go to mass at Edsa Shrine to view his Edsa Revolution mural inside the church. Upon arriving at the Nemi Miranda Arthouse in Doña Justa Street Angono, the Outstanding Filipino 2022 awardee for visual arts and sculpture toured me in his gallery, prepared a sumptuous meal in his restaurant Atelier Museo and treated me to coffee in his son’s café Señor Apetito overlooking the whole of Angono. He was elated that the Vice President of the Philippines was coming to cut the ribbon and grace his event.

“I just received the go signal from the Office of the Vice President that the honorable VP Inday Sara is coming to my exhibit launch this Feb. 20. My birthday wish has been granted. I have been a fan of her work since she was a mayor in Davao and now as vice president. As a mentor, I have been following her projects as DepEd secretary, and what she is doing for the students of the Philippines is brilliant and amazing."
He then showed me his art book authored by Geraldine Vitor Hernandez-Martens and published by EuroIntermedia Ventures, and I realized that VP Inday was also a fan of Miranda.
In her message in his artbook, she writes, “Let me send congratulations to Nemesio Miranda Jr. whose magnificent paintings over the years have evoked profound messages of freedom and conveyed to us the contemporary social challenges that we continue to overcome as a nation. It is an honor to witness your works that remind us of the beauty of our culture, heritage, and history, and I am deeply inspired by your singular heart to create an impactful message of hope from your art.”
In his gratitude for VP Inday's attendance, he showed me a beautiful oil painting of the vice president he will give personally to VP Inday. In addition, part of the exhibit proceeds will go to mounting the “VP Sara Cultural Pasasalamat Concert” at the OSS Football Field Netherlands on June 1, which Europe Pinoy is organizing.

The concert aims to help uplift the talented, gifted children of the Philippines and raise funds to build the “Windmill Cultural Village” in the Philippines. Organizers Geraldine Martens, Elsa Grinio, Susan De Groot, and Vanessa Tan are praying that the vice president can come personally to see her thousands of Filipino fans and supporters not only in the Netherlands but in neighboring countries like Paris and Germany, who are all excited to see her in person. The OSS football field can fit 5,000 people.
The Art Exposition and Artbook launching of Nemesio Miranda entitled “The Art Philosophy of Imaginative Figurism” will also feature other Angono artists like Keiye Tuazon and Paul Greco Miranda. It will be launched on Feb. 20 at 9 am, and the exhibit will last till March 2 at the KMC One Ayala Makati. Special thanks to Iza McCullough for the KMC Solutions venue.
