DSWD provides assistance to nearly 70k students-in-crisis on Day 2 of educational aid distribution

Nearly 70,000 students-in-crisis have received a one-time cash aid from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) on the second day of the agency’s Educational Assistance Payout on Aug. 27.
According to DSWD Assistant Secretary and spokesperson Romel Lopez, the DSWD has released P175.62 million in educational aid to 69,697 students-in-crisis.
He said the agency could not reach its target of 90,000 beneficiaries.
“Isa sa reason kung bakit hindi aabot ng 90k ay dahil upon screening and checking sa database ng Pantawid (4Ps) ay may mga nadiscover po na Pantawid. Ang iba din ay nakakatanggap na ng ibang scholarship (One of the reasons why it did not reach 90,000 is because upon screening and checking in the database of the 4Ps, some were found to be beneficiaries of the 4Ps, while others are already receiving other scholarships),” Lopez said in a Viber message to reporters.
“Ang iba naman ay walang pirma ng principal ang mga requirements kaya napapabalik kahit na sa text message natin ay may reminder na kung ano ung mga dadalhin na requirements (The requirements of others do not have the signature of the principal, so they are returned even though our text message has a reminder of what requirements they need to bring with them),” he added.
The educational assistance under the DSWD’s Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situations (AICS) program is intended to help students-in-crisis or emergency situations.
The payout is scheduled for six consecutive Saturdays from Aug. 20 to Sept. 24.
Each student may receive P1,000 for those in elementary, P2,000 for those in high school, P3,000 for those in senior high school, and P4,000 for those in college/vocational school.
