Vice President Ma. Leonor “Leni” Robredo has postponed her scheduled trip to Hong Kong next month for her “Istorya ng Pag-asa” (Stories of Hope) project.

(Mark Balmores / MANILA BULLETIN) Robredo, who is the leader of the opposition, announced it will be moved to a later date in the wake of the novel coronavirus that reached the Philippines. “Iyong Hong Kong, naka-set na sana ngayon March. So baka i-move natin ng mga May or June,” she said on her weekly radio show, “BISErbisyong Leni.” (The INP in Hong Kong is supposedly set this March. So we may move it to May or June.) “Matutuloy din po tayo; patapusin lang natin ito (We will push through; we will just let this to finish),” Robredo added. The vice president has been promoting real-life success stories of Filipinos here and abroad as part of INP, her office’s initiative to spread positivity and inspire people. This will be the third trip of the country’s second highest official in Hong Kong. She was in Hong Kong for the INP project back in July 2017 and March last year. Hong Kong, however, is one of the administrative regions of mainland China that is covered by the expanded temporary travel ban imposed by President Duterte in response to the nCoV threat. The other is Macau. Robredo said the administration’s ban on travelers coming from these countries was a “welcome development,” but it should have been imposed sooner to allay public fear. “The solution is the government to be more swift and aggressive in its response,” she said in Filipino.
