Tagle leaves PH to assume Vatican post

Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio G. Cardinal Tagle left the country Sunday to assume his new post in the Vatican.

The Archdiocese of Manila Office of Communications said Tagle left Manila at 10 p.m.
"His Eminence Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle has left Manila for Rome to take on his new mission at the Vatican," read the Advisory from the AOC.
"He asks for prayers as he also promises to remember us all in his new mission," it further read.
It was last December when Pope Francis appointed Tagle as prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples.
The cardinal on Sunday celebrated his last Mass as Archbishop of Manila at the Manila Cathedral.
The Manila Cathedral posted the video of his last Mass on its Facebook page Sunday evening.
During the event, the cathedral also unveiled Tagle's coat of arms now set on marble at the central nave of the church.
Father Reginald Malicdem, rector of the Manila Cathedral, explained that it has been a tradition in the Manila Cathedral that when an Archbishop of Manila ends his term, his coat of arms is placed on marble at the central nave of the church.
The coat of arms of the late Jaime Cardinal Sin and retired Cardinal Gaudencio Rosales are also at the central nave.
"This is a sense of pride and joy for us since you've been our Archbishop, the 32nd archbishop in the 441 years of the Archdiocese of Manila," said Malicdem.
He said it also signifies that the cardinal will be remembered in all the prayers and Masses offered in the cathedral.
"This is also a sign that you continue to be a clergy of the Archdiocese of Manila. You still belong to us. And this is an assurance that you always have a home with us in the cathedral.” added Malicdem, the cardinal's personal secretary.
He told the cardinal that "the doors of the cathedral are always open for you."
"It will always be a joy for us to tell you: Welcome to the Manila Cathedral, welcome home." said Malicdem.
