The national government reassured the public that it is doing its best to fight the threat of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) but reiterated its call to everyone to cooperate and follow the guidelines issued by the Inter-agency Task Force (IATF) for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases.

In a radio interview Thursday, Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles said that the IATF is managing despite the challenges the body faces in dealing with the deadly disease.
"Kung titignan natin ang numero, mukhang nama-manage naman natin. Pero, of course, ang dami pang challenges na kailangan nating malampasan (If we look at the figures, I think we are managing. But, of course, there are still a lot of challenges we need to overcome)," he told Super Radyo DZBB.
"Tignan na lang natin kung ano ang pwede pa nating gawing mga hakbang para maproteksyunan ang lahat. Dito na lang po tayo magko-concentrate (Let's see what other steps we can undertake to protect everybody. Let's all concentrate on this battle)," he added.
"Pero (But), we're managing it as best as we can at kailangan po natin ang kooperasyon ng bawat isa (and we need everybody's cooperation)," he added.
Nograles renewed the government's appeal to local government units (LGUs) to strictly implement the IATF guidelines and not overdo or underperform.
"Paulit-ulit po nating sinasabi sa kanila na laging makipag-ugnayan . Siguro may mga LGUs na sobra-sobra naman. Pag sobra-sobra naman kinakausap natin (We keep on asking them to coordinate with the Department of the Interior and Local Government. There are LGUs who are going over the top and we talk to them)," he said.
"Meron naman yung ibang hindi masyadong umaaksyon, o natatakot, o whatever, ineengangyo naman namin na ganito ang gawin niyo (There are also some who have not been performing. Maybe they are cautious but we urge them to do certain measures)," he added.
Nograles recognized the role of the LGUs in the country's fight against COVID-19.
"Sila talaga ang front liners natin (They are our front liners but) with guidance lang from DOH. Sa setup naman mas mabilis, eh. Kasi locality nila 'yan, alam nila ang pangangailangan (It's a fast process anyway because it's their locality, they know what they need to do)," Nograles said.
