The Manila City government relaunched the Luneta Urban Garden in Rizal Park on Thursday, June 4, to support food security efforts through urban farming and modern agriculture technology.
Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso joined the relaunch and the harvesting of premium Japanese musk melon grown at the site.
The event was also attended by Department of Agriculture (DA) Undersecretary Cheryl Marie Natividad-Caballero, Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Assistant Secretary Elizabeth Lopez De Leon, and DENSO Philippines Corporation President Yuji Torii.
According to the city’s Public Information Office, the project was carried out through the partnership of the Department of Agriculture-Bureau of Plant Industry (DA-BPI), DENSO Philippines Corporation, and the National Parks Development Committee (NPDC).
The initiative aims to show that food can be grown even in urban areas through efficient and technology-based farming methods.
The project also features advanced greenhouse technology and automated smart agriculture systems used in growing Japanese musk melon.
Domagoso expressed support for initiatives that strengthen food security and promote modern farming in the city.
