The Quezon City Jail Male Dormitory (QCJMD) is prepared to accommodate Sen. Jinggoy Estrada in the event the Sandiganbayan issues a warrant of arrest in his plunder case, Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Juaito Victor “Jonvic’’ Remulla stated.
Remulla confirmed that the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) has readied the detention cell for Estrada’s possible arrest, who is facing a non-bailable plunder charge over alleged kickbacks from flood control projects.
The Sandiganbayan has yet to issue a warrant of arrest in the case, while Estrada has already posted bail for a separate graft charge pending before the anti-graft court.
In the event of his incarceration, Estrada will be housed with former Senator Bong Revilla and other high-profile inmates in the facility designated for the accused in the flood control scandal.
On Friday, May 29, Estrada posted P90,000 bail before the Sandiganbayan in connection with graft charges filed against him over alleged irregularities in flood control projects.
The plunder and graft charges filed before the Sandiganbayan stem from alleged illegal budget insertions and the disbursement of over P573 million in supposed kickbacks connected to DPWH infrastructure projects under the Fiscal Year 2025 budget.
Estrada faces a separate non-bailable plunder case before the Sandiganbayan Fifth Division.
