TACLOBAN CITY – Mayor Mary Dominique Oñate of Palompon, Leyte invited travelers from around the world to visit Kalanggaman Island in Palompon, recently named 25th among the World's 50 Best Beaches.
“This milestone marks a proud moment not only for the municipality of Palompon and the province of Leyte but also for the entire Philippines,” she said.
The World's 50 Best Beaches list gathers travel professionals and beach ambassadors to vote on the best beaches, with the final list based on criteria such as uniqueness, wildlife, natural state, nature sounds, accessibility, calm waters, crowds, and beauty.
Oñate said Kalanggaman’s inclusion in the global rankings affirms what locals and visitors alike have cherished for years: A destination defined by natural beauty, tranquility, and careful preservation.
“This recognition is a testament to the unwavering commitment of the local government, community stakeholders, and tourism partners to promote its beauty while also protecting its fragile ecosystem,” she added.
As Kalanggaman Island steps onto the world stage for the first time, she said that they remain committed to protecting and maintaining the island’s unspoiled condition for future generations. “This achievement is not just a win for Palompon or Leyte but for the entire Philippines.”
The mayor urged visitors to respect its environment, support local livelihoods, and help ensure that its beauty endures.
Kalanggaman Island has long been considered a gem in Leyte for its powdery white sandbars stretching into crystal-clear turquoise waters.
