Eleven police commanders in Ilocos Region were booted out of their posts after they were found lacking in good performance in their respective areas of responsibility.
Those relieved were two intelligence officers with a rank of Police Lieutenant Colonels; another middle ranking officer assigned in Pangasinan; and the rest are eight chiefs of police in Pangasinan.
Police Brig. Gen. Randulf T. Tuaño, spokesperson of the Philippine National Police (PNP), said the officers were relieved after the assessment revealed of the lack of significant accomplishments to address illegal activities that include illegal gambling.
He said the same officials also failed in conducting operations to reduce focus crimes and to address other issues that include smuggling and loose firearms.
“They were reassigned here at Camp Crame while they are being administratively investigated by the PNP National Headquarters,” said Tuaño, adding that they were already replaced by other officials.
But Tuaño explained that the relief of the 11 police commanders was just part of the series of relief orders against underperforming police commanders.
PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio C Nartatez, Jr. earlier warned police commanders against being negligent in peace and order campaign and the first victims were three chiefs of police in Laguna a few months ago.
He then urged all police commanders to do more as they are being assessed regularly based on the parameters mapped out at Camp Crame.
“The Chief PNP has been saying that there are a lot of police officers who are ready to take over and perform better. To those who are already occupying positions, they need to do more and deliver what they are expected from them,” said Tuaño.
