Andre Yllana wants to work with mom Aiko Melendez but admits he might not survive it
Andre Yllana has reached a new milestone in his career, signing a fresh deal with VIVA Artist Agency.
At the contract renewal held at the VIVA office on March 18, Andre expressed his excitement about the possibility of collaborating with his parents, Aiko Melendez and Jomari Yllana.
"Actually, gustung-gusto ko po na makatrabaho sana si Mommy o kaya si Daddy kasi never ko pa po nagawa 'yon. Napag-usapan po namin ni Mommy yan, tapos feeling nga po niya, maganda raw po (Actually, I would love to work with Mom or Dad because I've never done that before. Mom and I talked about it, and she said it would be a great idea)," Andre said
Still, Andre acknowledged that sharing the screen with his mom could be a challenge, admitting it might lead to some awkward moments on set.
"Kaso ako, feeling ko, hindi ko kakayanin. Feeling ko, mao-awkward ako nang malala kay Mommy. Feeling ko, tatalakan niya ako. Feeling ko lang po, lalabas yung pagiging mom niya na, ‘O ganito. O ganyan (But I feel like I can't handle it. I feel like I'll be really awkward with Mom. I feel like she'll talk about me. I just feel like her Mommy nature will come out, 'Oh do this and that)," he added.
Andre’s star has been steadily rising, fueled by his standout performances in the first two seasons of Ang Mutya ng Section E and the thriller-mystery drama Hell University (2026), both of which resonated strongly with younger audiences on the Viva One streaming platform.
Through his compelling portrayals of Aries and Matthew, he has cemented his place as one of the most promising young actors of his generation.
"Craving pa po ako to do more kasi besides po the fame and yung name po na hinahangad ng lahat. Mas hinahangad ko po yung improvement, tsaka yung makapag-focus po sa growth ng sarili, kasi yun po talaga ang goal ko kasi gusto ko po tumagal, hindi ko po gusto yung sumikat ng sobra pero gusto ko po yung tumagal (I'm still craving to do more because besides the fame and the name that everyone desires). I'm looking forward to improvement, and to being able to focus on my own growth, because that's really my goal, because I want to last, I don't want to be too famous, but I want to last) ," Andre said.
With five years under his belt at VAA, Andre revealed that action is the genre he sees himself diving deeper into as his career progresses.
"I really enjoy the genre of action, kasi nung nasubukan ko po siya sa 'Lumuhod Ka Sa Lupa,' overwhelming po siya sa una pero habang napapagod po during ginagawa parang lalo ko po siya sine-seek and crave (I really enjoy the genre of action, because when I tried it on the show 'Lumuhod Ka Sa Lupa,' it was overwhelming at first, but as I got tired of doing it, I seemed to seek and crave it even more)," he said.
To back that ambition, Andre shared that he plans to invest more time in MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) and grappling training.
Since launching his journey with Viva in 2021, Andre has come a long way — and with his contract renewed, he’s setting his sights even higher, determined to grow as an actor and establish himself as one of VAA’s most sought-after young stars.
