A national reminder of gratitude.

That's how House Committee on Overseas Filipino Workers Chairman AGIMAT Party-list Rep. Bryan Revilla described the observance of the Month of Overseas Filipinos this December, as he recognized overseas Filipinos workers (OFW) for their sacrifices, contributions, and unwavering spirit.

“December is a national reminder of our gratitude to Overseas Filipinos—to every worker, migrant, and seafarer who continues to lift their families and our nation through their sacrifices,” Revilla said.

Revilla gave these remarks Monday, Dec. 1 following his attendance at the relaunch of the newly upgraded OFW Lounge at NAIA Terminal 1, a flagship initiative of the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA).

According to the Cavite-based solon, overseas Filipinos--whether workers, migrants, seafarers, or permanent residents abroad—continue to play a crucial role not only in supporting their families but also in sustaining the Philippine economy and uplifting the status of Filipino talent and resilience across continents.

Incidentally, December is when the bulk of OFWs' remittances are sent to the Philippines. This gives the country's economy an annual shot in the arm.

Revilla said the relaunch of the OFW Lounge was a “timely and meaningful gesture” as the country enters a month-long celebration dedicated to millions of Filipinos working and living abroad.

“Today’s relaunch of the OFW Lounge reflects our collective effort to honor them not only with words, but with facilities and services that genuinely ease their journey.”

OWWA and DMW officials noted that the upgraded lounge provides free food, beverages, comfortable seating, and a more spacious and secure waiting area for departing OFWs. It also serves as a hub to assist workers with documentation needs, inquiries, and last-minute concerns before their flights.

Revilla says that the improved lounge is aligned with the administration’s directive to deliver dedicated, modernized services to the so-called modern-day heroes, reinforcing the government’s commitment to their welfare.

In last week’s Appropriations Committee hearing, he pushed for the allocation of additional funding to expand, improve, and modernize OFW lounges nationwide.

“As chairman of the House Committee on Overseas Filipino Workers, I will continue pushing reforms that ensure protection, easier access to assistance, and better reintegration opportunities,” Revilla said.

“Facilities like this OFW Lounge must be standard—not an exception—for the millions who carry the Philippine flag across the world.”

He also encouraged the public to participate in the Month of Overseas Filipinos by recognizing the emotional burden OFWs carry, particularly during the holiday season.

“Behind every remittance and every success abroad is a Filipino who misses home deeply. This December, let us honor them by making sure they feel valued, supported, and protected,” he added.
