Members of the House of Representatives gave their sweet tributes to chief presidential legal counsel Juan Ponce Enrile on Thursday afternoon, Nov. 13 shortly after his daughter, Katrina confirmed his passing at the age of 101.

One of them, House Minority Leader 4Ps Party-list Rep. Marcelino "Nonoy" Libanan took to Facebook to share his final goodbye to "Manong Johnny".

"Ipinapaabot ko ang aking taos-pusong pakikiramay sa pamilya at mga mahal sa buhay ng yumaong lingkod-bayan, Manong Johnny (I extend my heartfelt condolences to the family and loved ones of the late public servant, Manong Johnny)," Libanan wrote.

"Sa loob ng maraming dekada, buong puso niyang inialay ang kaniyang talino, tapang, at kakayahan sa paglilingkod sa sambayanang Pilipino. Ang kaniyang mahabang karera sa paglilingkod sa ating bansa ay patunay ng kaniyang buong husay na dedikasyon at malasakit sa kapakanan ng bansa," he said of the multi-term senator and former Senate President.

For Libanan, Enrile's significant contributions to the government and to the advancement of reforms "will remain in the memory of the people".

"Nawa’y magsilbing inspirasyon sa susunod na henerasyon ng mga lingkod-bayan ang kaniyang halimbawa ng paglilingkod at katatagan. Paalam, Manong Johnny. Salamat sa iyong di matatawarang paglilingkod sa bayan," he said.

In a statement, Ako Bicol Party-list Rep. Alfredo Garbin Jr. described his fellow lawyer Enrile as a "legal luminary and public servant with only a handful of equals".

"He (Enrile) will be forever remembered as a Filipino public servant who strived to secure the best in law and in life what Filipinos needed most," added the Commission on Appointments (CA) member.

Manila 3rd district Rep. Joel Chua said in a separate statement that Enrile's life work will continue to impact Filipinos in the years to come.

"Few Filipinos can be considered as pivotal in our nation’s history. Juan Ponce Enrile is one of those few. He was, is, and will still be consequential," Chua, chairman of the Committee on Good Government and Public Accountability, said.

"Our condolences to the family of former Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile, to our colleagues in the Senate, the other public servants he served with throughout his storied and distinguished career, and the institutions he served," he added.

In his own Facebook post Thursday night, Bacolod lone district Rep. Albee Benitez said he joined the entire country in mourning the passing of Enrile, "an indefatigable leader who gave decades of his life to public service".

"His loss is deeply personal to me. JPE was not only a mentor, but a close friend," said Benitez.

"Long before he became one of the country's most influential public servants, he first fought for our nation as a young guerrilla-a testament to his lifelong courage, patriotism, and devotion to the Filipino people. Throughout his decades in government, he remained sharp in judgment and generous with guidance, always willing to share the wisdom he earned through experience," recalled the Visayan.

"I always appreciated that Manong Johnny believed in the potential of developing Cagayan and supported my efforts to push forward initiatives for the Freeport because he always wanted to see the farthest regions of our country rise and prosper," Benitez said.

He added: "I extend my heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones. We honor his memory by continuing the work he cared about most; strengthening our institutions and always putting the nation first."
