Speaker Faustino "Bojie" Dy III has vowed on Sunday, Oct. 26 that the House of Representatives would closely monitor the implementation of Executive Order (EO) Nos.100 and 101--two recent directives of President Marcos that are seen as a boon to farmers and fisherfolks.
With this promise, Dy said the House of Representatives would continue working with the Department of Agriculture (DA) to ensure these measures uplift every rural community.
“Panahon na para muli nating itaas ang dangal ng pagsasaka at pangingisda (it's about time that we raise the honor attached to farming and fishing)," the Isabela 6th district congressman said in a statement.
(Under Bagong Pilipinas, farmers and fisherfolk are not just providers of food—they are pillars of progress. If we want a strong economy, we must first strengthen these pillars.)
In the same statement, Dy hailed President Marcos for his compassion and decisive leadership after the latter signes EO Nos. 100 and 101, measures that set a floor price for palay (unhusked rice) while strengthening direct government support to farmers and fisherfolks.
Dy said the twin directives prove that the President fully understands the challenges facing those who feed the nation, and show that he is determined to restore their dignity and stability.
(President Marcos once again proved that he truly cares for our farmers. Through EO 100 and EO 101, he protects their livelihood, strengthens food security, and gives justice to those who have long sacrificed in the fields and at sea.)
The House leader noted that EO No.100, which sets a fair and just floor price for palay, will shield farmers from unfairly low buying prices that often occur during harvest season. The directive, he noted, will stabilize the market, improve farmer incomes, and strengthen national food security.
(Our farmers have long carried the burden of not receiving fair prices for their harvest. With EO 100, each grain of rice has a guaranteed value and their hard work is assured. This is true relief and justice for them.)
The Speaker also welcomed EO No.101, which strengthens the implementation of the Sagip Saka Act by requiring all national and local government agencies to directly buy from accredited farmers’ and fisherfolk cooperatives and enterprises.
(EO 101 offers new hope to those behind our food supply. No more middlemen or delays. Income goes directly into the pockets of farmers and fisherfolk.)
Prior for the release of the EOs, Dy met with Department of Agriculture (DA) Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. and Senator Kiko Pangilinan to discuss the proposals that have been adopted in the newly signed executive orders. Dy expressed gratitude for the continued support of the [DA], which he said was critical in ensuring that government can immediately address the concerns of the Philippine agriculture sector.
