Business magnate Chavit Singson, who owns a commercial hub in Pasig City, is calling on the government to start the groundbreaking of the long-stalled Metro Manila Subway project.
The promised construction of the P17.75-billion, game-changing project has yet to begin after three years of waiting, according to Singson.
“We are appealing to DOTr Sec. Giovanni Z. Lopez to immediately start the long-delayed construction of Metro Manila Subway, and we had already sent a letter to them,” Singson said in a statement.
The former politician’s appeal came after the Megawide Construction Corporation, together with its joint venture partners from Japan, Tokyu Construction and Tobishima Corporation, won the bidding for the ambitious project.
Singson insisted that the construction "should start right away".
The delay has already pushed the project's completion to 2032—a five-year setback. Once built, the subway is poised to revolutionize commuting in Metro Manila.
With Metro Manila's traffic among the worst globally and motorists losing up to 127 hours annually to rush hour gridlock, the need for this infrastructure has never been more urgent, Singson said.
