Akari officially opened its title campaign with a hard-fought 23-25, 25-23, 30-28, 23-25, 15-12 victory over defending champion Creamline in the 2025 Premier Volleyball League Reinforced Conference at the City of Dasmariñas Arena on Saturday, Oct. 11.
American import Annie Mitchem, who had stints in Indonesia, Italy, Turkey and Brazil, debuted with the Chargers with a 33-point explosion to outshine the equally resilient Cool Smashers.
Also stepping up for Akari was CJ Soyud, who fired four aces and posted three blocks to finish with 14 points, as well as Fifi Sharma, who poured in 11 of her 13 points on attacks.
Ced Domingo also spelled the difference for the Chargers by delivering 12 points.
Akari overcame Creamline’s solid net defense where the Cool Smashers managed 12 blocks by pumping in 66 kills -- 32 from Mitchem.
The victory also overshadowed the efforts of Courtney Schwan, who unloaded 26 points on 21 attacks and five blocks for Creamline.
Alyssa Valdez flashed her vintage form and drilled in 18 points for the Cool Smashers, even as Tots Carlos came off the bench in the last two sets and finished with 12 points, but their efforts were not enough to stop the Chargers.
