A total of 990 sacks, equivalent to 29.75 tons of trash, were collected by Pasig City offices and partner groups during the recent International Coastal Cleanup (ICC) Day 2025, with the theme “Clean Seas Against the Climate Crisis—We Are the Solution,” held at Buli Creek in Barangay San Miguel.

The local government of Pasig said the collected trash included carpets, plastic chairs, mannequins, vehicle tires, bulky waste, and assorted household items.
It said that the ICC's theme serves as a reminder that everyone has a role in keeping waterways clean. It underscores the urgent need to care for esteros, creeks, and rivers as lifelines of major waterways, stressing that healthy waterways provide a habitat for diverse species such as fish.
“Kaya’t tinatawagan ang lahat, iwasan nating magtapon ng basura sa ating mga ilog at sapa at patuloy nating itong pangalagaan—dahil ang malusog at buhay na waterways ay patunay ng masigla at progresibong pamumuhay ng ating komunidad (Everyone is therefore called upon to avoid throwing garbage into our rivers and creeks and to continue protecting them—because healthy and thriving waterways are a testament to a vibrant and progressive community),” it called.
Meanwhile, the Pasig City Task Force Manila Bay reminded the public that throwing trash into waterways is strictly prohibited and carries penalties under the following laws:
*City Ordinance No. 01, s. 2018 – Pasig City Ecological Solid Waste Management Ordinance
*Republic Act No. 9003 – Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000
*Republic Act No. 9275 – Philippine Clean Water Act of 2004
*Presidential Decree No. 1067 – Water Code of the Philippines [Article 51]: 3-meter easement sa urban areas, bawal magtayo ng permanenteng istruktura sa loob ng easement zone (A 3-meter easement in urban areas must be kept clear, and permanent structures are not allowed within the easement zone).
*Presidential Decree No. 1152 – Philippine Environment Code
*Supreme Court Mandamus on Manila Bay (G.R. No. 171947-48)—nag-aatas sa lahat ng ahensya ng pamahalaan at LGUs na tiyakin ang rehabilitasyon at pangangalaga ng Manila Bay at mga daluyan ng tubig (Directs all government agencies and LGUs to ensure the rehabilitation and protection of Manila Bay and its waterways).
The cleanup activity was participated in by the City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO), the Pasig City Task Force Manila Bay (PCTFMB), and the Bantay Sapa Team, along with various city offices, including the Office of the Mayor, the Office of City Councilor Kiko Rustia, the Solid Waste Management Office (SWMO), the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO), the Traffic and Parking Management Office (TPMO), and the City Health Department–Task Force Dengue, together with partner organizations.
