Not even the non-stop rain could slow down the two imported gallopers in the third leg of the competition, with Morally of star jockey Mark Alvarez and trainer Ernesto Roxas timing 1 minute and 38.4 seconds to top the the 1,600-meter race.
Ridden by Jeff Zarate, Varatti continued his winning ways by overcoming first leg conqueror Sherbet Fountain with a blistering time of 1 minute and 36 seconds to rule the King's Cup.
Also held were the inaugural memorial races for the late MMTCI’s founder Dr. Norberto Quisumbing. The first trophy one race was won by Caloocan Zap while the second one was ruled by Ace of Diamonds.
The Prince and King's Gold Cup was conceived by MMTCI Chairman and CEO Atty. Narciso O. Morales to rekindle public interest and stimulate growth in the horseracing sector after the prolonged disruption of the global pandemic. MMTCI committed a purse breakdown totaling P17 million for these events.
In partnership with the Philippine Racing Commission, MMTCI will soon pilot claiming races—where horses are put up for bid before a race—to expand market activity, broaden ownership opportunities, and increase overall handle and industry liquidity, Morales emphasized.
