The Parañaque City Sangguniang Panglungsod issued a resolution declaring the city under a state of calamity, based on the recommendation made by the Parañaque City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (DRRMC), on Friday, July 25.
Parañaque City Mayor Edwin Olivarez said the Sangguniang Panglungsod convened immediately after the DRRMC made a recommendation to place the city under a state of calamity due to the widespread devastation caused by “habagat”.
Olivarez said, based on the City Council Resolution No. 2025-213, the city was officially declared under a state of calamity due to the displacement of thousands of families across several barangays.
He said the declaration will enable the city government to mobilize emergency funds, expedite the procurement process, and request additional assistance from the national agency.
The mayor said immediate action is necessary to address the needs of the city residents who were victims of widespread flooding caused by “habagat,” intensified by the series of tropical cyclones “Crising,” “Dante,” and Emong.
