SUV catches fires at parking lot of Calapan City mall


CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro -- A brand-new sports utility vehicle caught fire in the parking lot of a local mall here at noon on Tuesday, April 16, while the city was experiencing a record-high of almost 40 degrees Centigrade heat index.

     The incident, which was captured live on camera by vloggers and on-lookers nearby, showed the SUV being engulfed in fire and thick smoke as it was parked at a mall in Barangay Sto. Nino here.

     Responding rescue personnel, led by Public Safety Department Chief Nelson Aboboto, were able to put the fire under control after 15 minutes. 

     No one was reported hurt as its owner was reportedly inside the mall when the incident happened.

     The cause of the fire remains unknown, and is still being investigated by local authorities.
