In a video statement, Endo, who warmly introduced himself as "Kuya Kazuya" when he assumed the post in March last year, shared that his experiences in the Philippines have made him feel like one of its people.

"I am also very touched by the warmth of the people in the Philippines, so much so that I have oftentimes felt much like a Filipino myself," he said.

Since his arrival in the country, Kuya Kazuya has traveled across different regions, immersing himself in the country's diverse cultures.

"I’m thankful for the many opportunities to connect with all of you—visiting the country’s different regions and experiencing your diverse cultures," he added.

Beyond personal experiences, Ambassador Endo highlighted the milestones achieved in the Philippines-Japan relations over the past year.

He cited progress in areas such as the economy, security, culture, and people-to-people exchange.

"Looking back on the progress of our ties for the past 12 months, I am overwhelmed by the many milestones we have already achieved," he said.

Under his tenure, Japan has continued its support for the Philippines in various infrastructure projects, including the Metro Manila Subway, which broke ground in February 2024; the North-South Commuter Railway, and the Davao City Bypass.

Japan has also provided security assistance to the Philippines in the first half of 2024, including the donation of five air surveillance radars and 10 patrol vessels to enhance the Philippines' maritime security.

With these developments, Endo said he was looking forward to more collaborations between the countries in the coming years.

"As our cooperation steadily progresses in the coming years, anticipating the completion of big-ticket infrastructure projects, the realization of our various agreements, and the promotion of more exchange programs, there is much to look forward to as I continue my tenure in this wonderful country," he said.

Ambassador Endo then thanked Filipinos for contributing to the success of his first year in office and invited them to join him in building a promising future for both nations.

"Taus-puso po akong nagpapasalamat (I express my wholehearted gratitude) to our Filipino friends and partners who have made my first year in the Philippines truly remarkable," he said.

"Samahan niyo ako (Join me) as we work towards a more promising and exciting future for Japan and the Philippines," he added.
