More than 100 tablets and three Starlink internet devices were distributed to public schools in Cebu following the partnership forged by a group advocating digital inclusivity with government agencies for the promotion of a new initiative aimed at promoting digital learning in the Philippines.
Dubbed as “Pay IT Forward: A Digital Transformation Advocacy”, artificial intelligence and digital access advocate Bran Reluao said the program was born from a desire to complement government efforts in expanding access to education technology.
The program was launched by representatives from the iAcademy and the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) led by Secretary Henry Rhoel Aguda and Undersecretary Dino Aguirre; the Department of Education (DepEd) led by Assistant Secretary Aurelio Paolo Bartolome; and, iAcademy president Raquel Wong.
“We come together under a shared vision — to make digital learning more accessible for all. The government has made significant strides toward this goal. In our own little way, we wish to contribute to this cause through Republic Asia’s ‘Pay IT Forward’ initiative,” said Reluao.
“Education is the great equalizer. I personally believe that technology can be a powerful equalizer, too — if we give every learner a fair chance at success. One learner, one school at a time,” he added.
He said the initiative includes the donation of 100 tablets and three Starlink internet devices to public schools in Cebu, one of the country’s key provinces outside Metro Manila.
The initiative aligns with national programs such as the Free Wi-Fi for All project of the DICT and DepEd’s ongoing blended learning program.
Wong, for her part, emphasized the broader significance of the effort:
“We have always believed that technology and education are powerful allies in unlocking the full potential of students. In today’s fast-paced digital landscape, access to technology is no longer a privilege. It is a necessity,” said Wong.
“This project is more than just a donation of connectivity and tablets to schools and students. It is an investment in their future, empowering them with the tools they need to navigate, create, and thrive in an increasingly digital world,” she added.
Under the agreement, Republic Asia will also lead public information campaigns to support the government's digital initiatives, particularly those that aim to modernize the educational curriculum and improve access to digital tools among underserved communities.
Reluao said the long-term goal of “Pay IT Forward” is to help catalyze a nationwide movement for digital transformation.
