House Assistant Majority Leader Lanao del Sur 1st district Rep. Zia Alonto Adiong has expressed his condolences to the families of two overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) who perished in the recent earthquake that hit Myanmar.

“Unang-una po, tayo po ay nakikiramay sa pamilya po ng mga nasawi sa lindol na nangyari sa Myanmar,” Adiong, a member of the House "Young Guns" bloc, said in a press conference on Thursday, April 10.

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) earlier confirmed the two deaths and said efforts were underway to repatriate the remains.

“I’m sure the DFA is doing its level best to provide assistance and support to ‘yung naging biktima (to the victims), as well as provide assistance to the family kung anuman ‘yung kailangan ng ating mga kababayan (on whatever our countrymen might need),” he said.

He added that the DFA is working with Myanmar authorities to ensure aid reaches affected Filipinos, especially the families of those who died in the magnitude 7.7 quake that struck last March 28.

Adiong also expressed hope that the victims’ remains will be returned to the Philippines in the soonest possible time.

“So I pray that they [are] transported back home so that makakasama man lang nila ang kanilang mahal sa buhay (they can be reunited with their loved ones),” he said.
