“Yes, our assigned police unit is now preparing rape and murder charges against the suspect, for filing in the City Prosecutor’s Office and inquest proceeding,” Police Regional Office 13-Regional Public Information Office chief Police Major Jennifer S. Ometer said on Sunday, March 16.

The suspect is in the custody of the Butuan City Police Office-Station 4 while legal documentation is ongoing.

Investigation said the victim’s 43-year-old father reported to the police that her daughter went missing while sleeping in their house.

Police conducted a follow-up investigation and found out that her family discovered a T-shirt beside the rice field embankment.

The suspect who surreptitiously joined the search told her family not to touch the T-shirt.  He suddenly disappeared and when they returned to the area, the T-shirt was nowhere to be found.

Her family searched further and located the T-shirt and a muddy security guard uniform inside the house of the suspect.

Police said that the suspect allegedly raped and killed the victim by punching her face and pressing her face to the muddy ground.

The victim died and her body was dumped in an abandoned deep well about 700 meters away from his house. Her body was retrieved and taken to a funeral parlor here.

Police are conducting an autopsy on the victim and processing the crime scene for additional evidence.
