Girl, 13, rescued by police from alleged rapist

A 13-year-old girl was rescued by the Mandaluyong City Police from a Chinese national who was about to rape her while inside the suspect's condominium unit in Barangay Hulo, Mandaluyong City, on March 9.

The Eastern Police District (EPD) identified the suspect as "Li Liam," 59, an engineer.

Based on the police report, the victim, identified as "AAA," was invited by her friend to swim at her aunt's condominium where the suspect also lives.

Upon arriving at the condominium, Li Liam fetched the two and brought them to his own unit. AAA noted that it was her first time meeting Li Liam but her friend seemed to know the suspect for a long time.

Once they reached the suspect's unit, Li Liam gave several pieces of P1,000 bills to AAA's friend who left the room after.

The suspect then proceeded to rape the victim, forcing his private part into AAA's mouth. He then ordered the victim to take a bath first before continuing the assault.

This gave the girl the chance to message her mother regarding the incident, who then reported it to the Mandaluyong City Police.

A police operation was quickly launched for the girl's rescue which led to Li Liam's arrest.

He is now facing charges for violation of RA 8353 in relation to RA 7610. He is still under the custody of the Mandaluyong City Police.

EPD district director Col. Villamor Tuliao lauded the police for AAA's quick rescue.

“Labis na nakakadismaya ang makatanggap ng mga sensitibo at maseselang kaso kung saan ang mga kabataan ang kadalasang biktima. Kaya sa ating kapulisan, patuloy tayong manindigan laban sa anumang uri ng karahasan at pang-aabuso. Siguraduhin nating batas ang mangingibabaw para maisulong ang hustisya na nararapat para sa mga biktima (It is really saddening to receive sensitive reports wherein the youth is the victim. So for us police officers, may we continue to stand firm on our responsibility to fight any kind of violence and abuse. Let's make sure that the law will always prevail and to serve justice for all victims)," Tuliao said.

“Sa mga kapwa ko magulang, ang insidenteng ito ay isang paalala upang higit pa nating itaas ang ating kamalayan sa mga nagyayari sa ating mga anak para mailayo sila sa mga ganitong uri ng krimen. Sa mura nilang edad, dapat ay tinatamasa nila ang buhay na malaya sa karahasan (To parents like me, may this incident serve as a reminder for us to ensure our children's safety to prevent these kinds of crimes from happening to them. With their young age, they should live life to the fullest and far from violence)," he added.
