Marcos sets foot in Iloilo City for the first time as president


ILOILO CITY – President Ferdinand R. Maros Jr. visited this city for the first time on Thursday, Feb. 13.

Marcos has visited Passi City, a component city in Iloilo province, since becoming president, but it was only on Thursday that he visited Iloilo City, the regional capital of Western Visayas, as Chief Executive.

The President stopped by the Iloilo Sports Complex to inspect  job-matching for the beneficiaries of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in partnership with the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE). He also visited the Kadiwa ng Pangulo program of the Department of Agriculture.

Marcos presided over the Regional Development Council-6  meeting at Casa Real de Iloilo or the old provincial capitol with Secretary Arsenio Balisacan of the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA).

The Chief Executive met Governors Arthur “Toto” Defensor Jr. of Iloilo, Rhodora Cadiao of Antique, Fredenil Castro of Capiz, JC Rahman Nava of Guimaras, as well as Mayors Jerry Treñas of Iloilo City and Mayor Alfredo “Albee” Benitez of Bacolod.

All regional directors of national government agencies and private sector representatives were also present during the meeting.

After the meeting, Marcos was scheduled to endorse the senatorial candidates under the administration’s Alyansa para sa bagong Pilipinas in an evening rally at the Gaisano City Center here.
