Iloilo City lone district Rep. Jam Baronda on Monday, Jan. 27, expressed relief after President Marcos granted clemency to the former city mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog.

Baronda said that the prayers of thousands of people--particularly those who have witnesses to how Mabilog had given it all for Iloilo City--"have been heard."

"Justice is served," Baronda said as she also expressed her gratitude to those who helped him attain justice.

On Monday, Marcos granted Mabilog's petition for executive clemency due to his "longstanding commitment to good governance, coupled with awards and recognition received by Iloilo City under his leadership". according to Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin.

Mabilog was facing an administrative case.

In October 2017, he was ordered dismissed by the Office of the Ombudsman after it found him guilty of serious dishonesty for failure to explain his questionable wealth worth P8.9 million from 2012 to 2013.

He was also facing graft charges over alleged intervention in the awarding of a government contract to a towing services firm where they have an interest in. In 2024, he posted bail for such charges.

In 2016, Mabilog was included in former president Rodrigo Duterte's drug watch list. He has maintained his innocence all these years.

Baronda said she saw what Mabilog and his family went through.

"And I thank God for giving them the heart and strength to face everything. May God continue to bless and anoint the entire Mabilog family," the lawmaker said.

"We thank President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr. and Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin for the grant of the executive clemency," she added.
