‘Amihan’ to bring cool weather, light rains to Luzon; easterlies to cause rain showers across the rest of PH

The northeast monsoon (amihan) is expected to bring cool weather and light rains to parts of Luzon, while the easterlies will affect the rest of the country and cause rain showers and thunderstorms, said the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Sunday, Jan. 26.

PAGASA Weather Specialist Grace Castañeda said Batanes will experience cloudy skies with light rains, while the rest of Luzon will likely have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains in the next 24 hours.

Castañeda added that there is a possibility of another surge of the amihan, which may bring cooler temperatures, especially to Luzon, along with an increased chance of rain.

Meanwhile, the warm winds from the Pacific Ocean, known as the easterlies, will bring cloudy skies and scattered rain showers to parts of the Visayas and Mindanao, including Caraga, Zamboanga Peninsula, Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, Southern Leyte, and Eastern Samar. PAGASA warned of flash floods and landslides, especially during moderate to heavy rainfall.

The rest of the country will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.
