Lady cop feted for rescuing newborn baby girl in Cagayan


TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan – A policewoman was feted this National Women’s Month  for rescuing a baby girl abandoned in a gasoline station in Camalaniugan, Cagayan on Feb. 17.

Philippine National Police chief Police Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil lauded 𝖯olice 𝖬aster 𝖲𝗀t. 𝖤𝗂𝗅𝖾𝖾𝗇 𝖬𝖺𝗅𝖺𝗓𝗓𝖺𝖻, assigned to the 𝖢𝖺𝗆𝖺𝗅𝖺𝗇𝗂𝗎𝗀𝖺𝗇 Police Station, for her concern. 

The newborn was found in the public bathroom of Save Oil Gasoline Station in Barangay Bulala.

Malazzab who was in a group of lawmen assigned to man an outpost in Bulala Junction responded to the discovery.

She said that she did not know what to do when she saw the baby.

"Di namin alam gagawin that time. Nag-back off talaga ako pagkakita ko, nag-iyak talaga akong mga 10 seconds  bago ko nakuha lakas ng loob na buhatin. Nakita ko nalang iyong karton niyan sa labas na pinulot ko na lang." 

(We did not know what to do. I backed off and cried when I saw her and it took me 10 seconds to have the courage to carry her. I saw a box nearby and placed her there) 

The baby was taken to the hospital accompanied by municipal health personnel.

The baby was declared safe and now in the care of the Camalaniugan Department of Social Welfare and Development.
