BACOLOD CITY, Negros Occidental--Administration senatorial candidate Manny Pacquiao says that the problem of teen pregnancy is rooted in what he called "sexual immorality".
Pacquiao, a member of the Alansya para sa Bagong Pilipinas senatorial slate, offered a simple yet sensible solution to the early pregnancy among Filipino youth.
"Para sa akin, i-encourage natin yung mga magulang na i-educate yung mga kabataan nila na ‘wag pumasok sa ganyan kasi (For me, we should encourage parents to educate their children not to enter into those things)," the former senator said in a press conference here Friday, Feb. 21.
"Turuan sila na may Panginoon dahil labag talaga sa Panginoon ‘yang sexual immorality habang hindi pa kayo nag-aasawa (Let's teach them about God, that sexual immorality is really against God especially outside of marriage)," he said.
"Especially ma-in love naman talaga sila pagdating ng panahon, but ituro sa kanila na may Panginoon. Magkaroon sila ng takot sa Panginoon (Especially the time will come when they fall in love, but they should be taught that there is a God. They should have fear in God)," added the boxing icon-turned-politician.
According to Pacquiao, the sins committed before God are the reasons behind man's hardships.
"Yung sexual immorality talagang laganap sa buong mundo and I’m sure na tayong mga magulang responsibilidad natin na turuan ang ating mga anak na huwag pumasok sa ganyan. Turuan ng magandang asal," said Pacquiao, who is known for his strong Christian beliefs.
(Sexual immorality has spread across the globe and I'm sure that it's our responsibility as parents to teach our children not to enter in those things. Teach them good conduct.)
