The body of Miguela Pocong Barino was already in a state of decomposition when she was found by her great-grandchild at past 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 1, in Barangay Candabong.

The woman was discovered at the doorstep of her house where she had been living alone.

The woman’s head was found near the first step of the stairs, said Police Capt. Eden Rex Baguio, chief of the Dumanjug Police Station.

The Scene-of-the-Crime Operatives was called in to examine the body. Based on the examination, the woman was already dead for at least 48 hours before she was discovered.

Baguio said the woman had no external injuries that may suggest foul play. Things inside the house were in order.

Baguio added that P3,000 cash was found tucked in the woman’s waist.

He said it was possible that the woman suffered a heart attack or fell on the stairs.

Since the body was already decomposing, it was possible that some stray dogs disturbed the body, causing the head to fall off, police said.
