525 PDLs freed from Jan. 1 to 30 -- BuCor


A total of 525 persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) had been released by the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) from Jan. 1 to 30 this year.

With the number of releases, a total of 18,947 PDLs had been freed by BuCor since the start of the administration of President Marcos.

“You will now face another chapter in your life,” said BuCor Director General Gregorio Pio P. Catapang Jr. during the culminating activity held on Monday, Jan. 30, for released PDLs.

“But we don’t want you to fail. ‘Wag kayo mawawalan ng pag-asa' (Don’t lose hope),” Catapang said as he assured that "ang ating gobyerno gagabayan rin kayo (the government will also guide you).”

Fifty PDLs were freed on Thursday, Jan. 30. 

“Among those released this month of January were 27 PDLs from the Correctional Institution for Women (CIW) in Mandaluyong City,  one from CIW Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm,  eight from CIW Mindanao, 71 from Davao Prison and Penal Farm, 52 from Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm, 27 from Leyte Regional Prison, 73 from the Maximum Security Camp of New Bilibid Prison (NBP), 82 from the Medium Security Camp of NBP,  81 from the Minimum Security Camp of NBP,  three from the Reception and Diagnostic Center of NBP,  66 from Sablayan Prison and Penal Farm, and  34 from San Ramon Prison and Penal Farm,” the BuCor said.
