21 nabbed for violating poll gun ban in Western Visayas


ILOILO CITY – Twenty-one individuals have been arrested for violating the election gun ban in Western Visayas.

The Police Regional Office-6 said all the violators were civilians. The most recent violator was from Bacolod City, a 54-year-old man caught carrying a gun replica.

The Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office arrested six, followed by the Bacolod City Police Office with five, Capiz Police Provincial Office, four; Iloilo City Police Office with three; and Aklan Police Provincial Office, Iloilo Provincial Police Office, and Regional Mobile Force Battalion-6, one each.

No violators have been recorded from the provinces of Antique and Guimaras.

PRO-6 Director Police Brig. Gen. Jack Wanky urged police to follow procedures in checkpoints. “Strictly adhere to our police operational procedures and related policies during the conduct of the same with utmost respect to human rights,” said Wanky.

The suspects were arrested from Jan. 12, when the gun ban started, to Jan. 28.
