Darryl Yap says Charito Solis close to Pepsi Paloma

Director Darryl Yap explained the role of the late Filipino actress Charito Solis in the life of Pepsi Paloma, the subject of his upcoming film.

Yap is releasing the film “The Rapists of Pepsi Paloma” in Philippine cinemas in February.

“The Rapists of Pepsi Paloma” stars Rhed Bustamante as Paloma, Gina Alajar as Solis, Mon Confiado as Paloma’s manager Rey Dela Cruz, Rosanna Roces as Divina Valencia, Andres Balano Jr. as Richie D'Horsie and Shamaine Buencamino as Lydia Duena Whitley, Paloma’s mother.

Solis passed away in 1998 while Paloma, who also worked as an actress, passed away in 1985.

Solis co-starred with TV host and actor Vic Sotto in the sitcom “Okay Ka, Fairy Ko!” which ran from 1987 to 1997.

In a Facebook post, Yap, who directed and wrote the film, stated, “Kailangan ng bawat isa ng Charito Solis sa kanilang buhay.”

He said the two actresses were close.

It was also announced that the official movie trailer for “The Rapists of Pepsi Paloma” will be released at noon on Jan. 21.

Sotto, who was mentioned in the movie teaser that was released on Jan. 1, filed a P35 million cyber libel complaint against Yap with the Muntinlupa Prosecutor’s Office.

Sotto also filed a petition for writ of habeas data against Yap with the Muntinlupa Regional Trial Court Branch 205, seeking to remove the teaser and other promotional materials that mentioned his name.

Yap and Sotto attended the summary hearing for the writ on Jan. 17 and the court will issue its decision within 10 days.
