The Manila Economic and Cultural Office (MECO) in Taiwan is promoting to Filipinos job opportunities in the island that can offer at least P52,000 salary per month.
Cesar Chavez, Jr., the country's labor attachè in Taiwan, said the Philippine government is urging Filipinos to take advantage of the job opportunities in the island as it offers "huge salaries" that even increase yearly.
"Sa ngayon po, starting January 1, ang basic monthly salary ng ating mga workers doon ay (Starting January 1, our workers starting basic monthly salary is) 28,590 Taiwanese dollars—that's equivalent to 52,000 pesos more or less at the current rate," he said.
"Basic pa lang 'yan, pero may overtime po 'no. At iyong mga kakabayan natin ay gusto overtime nang overtime para malaki ang kita (And that's just the basic. There is still an overtime pay, which many of our fellow want to have for additional income)," he added.
Chavez vouched for job opportunities in the island as employers there strictly adhere to the ethical recruitment principle. So, they directly hire their employees and do not pay recruitment agencies placement fees, unlike overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in other countries.
He said job opportunities are available mostly in the manufacturing industry, particularly in the semiconductor and artificial intelligence chips and components industries.
As of January 2024, he said, there are about 150,000 OFWs in Taiwan, and the majority of them work in the factories. Only 24,000 are domestic helpers, he added.
