ILOILO CITY – A bedridden woman was killed while almost 150 persons were displaced in a fire in this city on Tuesday, Jan. 7.

Authorities identified the victim as Susan Aytuna of Barangay Rizal in Lapuz Sur.
According to barangay officials, family members of the victim panicked during the fire that they forgot to rescue her.
The 68-year-old’s charred body was found underneath her bed.
One-hundred fifty people from more than 30 households were displaced by the fire that started past 1 p.m. and under control more than 30 minutes later.
A sweeping operation by the Bureau of Fire Protection found out that 16 houses were totally damaged while a house was partially damaged.
The Iloilo City Social Welfare and Development Office is coordinating the evacuation of displaced residents at the nearby Jalandoni Memorial Elementary School.
This is the second major fire in the city after the New Year. Over the weekend, a fire destroyed homes in Barangay Tacas in Jaro District.
