Police Col. Edison V. Revita, Oriental Mindoro police chief, said they have referred the murder and attempted rape complaints in the killing of Caryl Cabello Valenzuela of Barangay Isabang, Tayabas City, Quezon, to the office of the provincial prosecutor.

Valenzuela’s body was found wrapped in a bloodstained laminated blue tarpaulin at about 7 a.m. in Sitio Nyugan, Barangay Manguyang.

Revita said the local police, headed by Police Major Honorato A. Balinte, immediately conducted a thorough investigation that led to the identification of the victim through the help of residents and social media.

The victim was positively identified by her 16-year-old daughter and relatives who came all the way from Quezon upon learning the incident.

The victim’s body was cremated in a funeral home here.

The suspect, a 39-year-old resident of Sitio Centro Dos, Barangay Corazon, Bansud, Oriental Mindoro, surrendered to Balinte on Wednesday, September 25.

The suspect, employed as a utility worker at the municipality of Bansud, admitted to the killing by executing an extra-judicial confession in the presence of his lawyer Larry Quinton.

Revita said the suspect is deeply indebted to the victim, amounting to thousands of pesos, which they considered as the probable motive behind the killing.

An autopsy report by the Police Regional Office 4-B Scene-of-the-Crime Unit showed that the victim died due to blunt traumatic injury on her head, asphyxia consistent with strangulation, and stab wound on her neck.

Revita commended the Gloria police station for their swift action and reassured the public of their commitment in maintaining public safety and speedy solution of crimes.
