Man arrested for allegedly killing woman over P500,000 debt


CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro – Police arrested a man on Wednesday, September 25, for allegedly killing a 38-year-old woman collecting a P500,000 debt from his wife in the municipality of Bansud, this province, on Sunday, September 22.

The victim was identified as 38-year-old   Caryl Cabello Valenzuela of Tayabas City, Quezon.

Investigation said Valenzuela arrived in this province on Sunday to meet the wife of the suspect and collect a P500,000 debt.

Valenzuela met the suspect and his wife. However, the couple later on reported to barangay officials that the victim was missing.

Barangay officials informed the police in Bansud who conducted a follow-up investigation  and located the naked body of Valenzuela on Monday, September 23, on a road in Barangay Manguyang, Gloria, Oriental Mindoro, wrapped in a tarpaulin with injuries to her head.

The Gloria Municipal Police Station withheld the identity of the suspect as they are still conducting follow-up investigation the case.

Personal belongings of the victim, such as wallet and cellphone were missing, police said.

The victim's identity was confirmed by a relative who learned about the incident thru social media and the contact number of the couple.
