‘Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story’ debuts at No. 1 on Netflix


“Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story,” the story of two brothers who killed their parents in 1989 in Beverly Hills, California, debuted at No. 1 on Netflix. 

Netflix released the rankings for its weekly Global Top 10 of the most watched shows and films for the period Sept. 16 to 22. 

“Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story,” released on Sept. 19, debuted on top of Netflix’s English TV list with 12.3 million views and ranked in the top 10 in 89 countries and territories including being No. 1 in the US, Canada, United Kingdom, France and Sweden.

The drama, the second installment of the “Monster” anthology series, tells the story of brothers Lyle and Erik Menendez, who are serving life imprisonment without parole for killing their parents José and Mary Louise “Kitty” Menendez in 1989. They were found guilty in 1996. 

“Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story” stars Cooper Koch as Erik Menendez and Nicholas Alexander Chavez as Lyle Menendez. 

On the non-English TV list, the Korean culinary contest series “Culinary Class Wars” debuted at No. 1 with 3.8 million views. 

The Korean drama “Love Next Door,” starring Jung Hae-in and Jung So-min, is No. 2 with 3 million views, spending its sixth week in the top 10. 

On the non-English Films list, Korean actor Kim Woo-bin’s action comedy movie “Officer Black Belt,” spent its second week at No. 1 with 15.7 million views. It is the No. 1 film in the Philippines, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, Morocco, Singapore and Vietnam.
