More than 203,000 senior citizens in Manila will receive a monthly allowance worth P2,000 each from the city government.

Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan announced that the distribution of the monthly allowances has started from September 8 until September 27.

Office of Senior Citizens' Affairs (OSCA) Chief Elinor Jacinto said that the total number of senior citizens in the city already reached 203,000 as of August 31.

He said the P2,000 cash aid covers the months from May to August 2024.

The mayor said that the payout, cash out, and liquidation of senior citizens' allowance are being handled by Public Employment Service Office (PESO) Chief Fernan Bermejo.

The distribution schedule was divided into districts on specific dates. The last batch of payout is scheduled to take place from September 21 to 27 covering Districts 5 and 6.

Lacuna-Pangan said the allowances, which are being given as part of the local government's social amelioration program, are now being coursed through the barangays due to requests from senior citizens who encounter problems using their PayMaya cards.
