DOJ probes fake social media account of Office of Cybercrime

The Department of Justice (DOJ) has started investigating a fake social media account that claims to be the official account of its Office of Cybercrime (DOJ-OCC).

In a statement, the DOJ identified the "fake" Facebook account as: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61566045686911&name=Anti-Internet-Fraud-Help&paipv=0&eav=AfbMP9nSncGLpE4K8A04oy5F6KVUz4DpeJeyxXb5oDVN4Qhutop3N-71dwklT41q_Rg&_rdr

“We assure the public that the Office is actively investigating this matter and that appropriate charges will be filed against the individuals responsible,” the DOJ-OOC stated.

It then advised the public “not to engage with the fraudulent page and to report any incidents immediately to the Department of Justice - Office of Cybercrime (DOJ-OOC) if you or someone you know has been affected.”

“Please remain vigilant and always verify information from official sources,” it also said.

The DOJ-OCC said its official Facebook accounts are: https://m.facebook.com/dojoocph/ https://m.facebook.com/OfficeofCybercrimePH
