British envoy lauds Marcos' strong stand vs online child abuse

British Ambassador to the Philippines Laure Beaufils has lauded President Marcos' strong stand against Online Sexual Abuse and Exploitation of Children (OSAEC).

In a post on X on Tuesday, Sept. 17, Beaufils said that Marcos' recent speech at the OSAEC Summit in Manila was "very powerful" as it set out his "unwavering commitment to stamp out online sexual abuse of children" in the Philippines.

United Kingdom's National Crime Agency (NCA) will also do its part to deliver on this, Beaufils added.

On Monday, Marcos said that the Philippine government had not done enough to protect the victims of OSAEC.

He said that the country must do more to protect the victims after having questioned why Filipinos are known for taking care of foreign nationals, especially children, but not of their own.

"For us to allow this to happen in our country brings to me an overwhelming sense of shame because being in government, being in public service, we are not doing enough,” he said, noting that one and every 100,000 Filipinos is a victim.

Marcos turned emotional as he delivered such remark.

“And for the Philippines to be the epicenter of…the Online Sexual Abuse and Exploitation of Children. And I live it to your imagination, and I would imagine in some cases your imagination cannot even be keen to fathom what is done to these poor children,” he added.

Marcos said that OSAEC is becoming widespread.

“So we must do more,” he added, citing it is not a distant problem.
