More than just a fold
At a glance
A few weeks ago, in the article "Three's Company", I mentioned the top contenders in the tri-fold smartphone race. On September 10, one of the contenders took the lead. What was once a concept is now a reality with the Huawei Mate XT.
Tri-fold smartphones feature three folding sections. This feature allows the device to expand to a tablet and collapse to a compact phone made possible by a multiple hinge system and flexible display technology. This innovation offers more flexibility making them an ideal device for multitasking, media consumption and productivity.
The Huawei Mate XT is exquisitely stunning with its unique Z-folding design. It folds inwards on one hinge and outwards on the other, similar to how a fan folds in sections. When fully folded, it fits compactly in your hand as a 6.4-inch phone. Unfolding one section reveals a 7.9-inch screen, and fully unfolding it expands to a spacious 10.2-inch tablet.
Under the hood, the Mate XT packs impressive features including an upgraded Xiaoyi smart assistant working with Pangu technology to create a powerful AI ecosystem for a smarter and more intuitive user experience. In addition to a Kirin 9010 5G processor,16GB of RAM and Harmony OS 4.2, it is equipped with a high-capacity 5600mAh battery in that very slim body. It also supports 66W wired and 50W wireless charging.
The Huawei Mate XT is only available in China, with no word on its availability in other countries.
In the evolution of mobile devices, these are indeed exciting times. Soon, tri-fold smartphones may become the new standard in the smartphone industry. For now, it is good to know that as tech companies push the boundaries of smartphone technology the possibilities keep getting bigger and better.
