Man who posed as member of Pres Marcos' cabinet arrested -- NBI

A man who posed himself as a member of the cabinet of President Marcos was arrested by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI).

The NBI identified him as Juanito Tan De Veyra who introduced himself as secretary of the Committee on Flagship Programs & Projects under the Office of the President (OP).

The entrapment operation was conducted after the NBI received information from the OP that De Veyra has been introducing himself as secretary in applying for a special plate at the Land Transportation Office-National Capital Region (LTO-NCR), the bureau said.

It said “the Office of the President-Presidential Management Staff's certification disclosed that Juanito Tan De Veyra is not appointed by the President as Secretary of the Presidential Committee and ”there is no office as Presidential Committee on Flagship Programs & Projects as of date.”

De Veyra was arrested during an entrapment operation conducted by operatives of the NBI Special Task Force (NBI-STF) last Friday, August 16, at the LTO-NCR in Quezon City while he was following up his application for a special plate.

De Veyra was presented before the Office of the Inquest Prosecutor, Department of Justice, Quezon City for inquest proceedings.

“When asked about his transaction, Subject once again introduced himself as Secretary under the Office of the President, and bragged that he could give infrastructure projects to possible government contractors such as Department of Public Works and Highways flood control, roads, Department of Transportation airports, etc. He also gave his business card bearing ‘Secretary’ under Office of the President, Presidential Committee on Flagship Programs & Projects,” the NBI said.

“STF operatives, upon confirmation that Subject Juanito Tan De Veyra knowingly and falsely representing himself as a Secretary in the OP (Office of the President), arrested the Subject in flagrante delicto (in the act) for violation of Article 177 of the Revised Penal Code (Usurpation of Authority),” it also said.
