The 17-year-old White, who is gunning for a spot in the Philippine contingent for the 33rd Southeast Asian Games in Thailand next year, disclosed her move in Durham, North Carolina as she expressed her excitement and thanked her loved ones for their unwavering support.

“I am thrilled to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at Duke University!” White wrote on her social media post.

“I have been blessed with the endless support from all my coaches, friends, and family who have stuck by me throughout my journey,” the proud daughter of PE teacher Jenny added. “And to my parents, I would not have this opportunity without their unconditional support and sacrifice.”

The Vietnam-based tanker recently attempted to qualify in women’s 50m freestyle for the upcoming 2024 Paris Games in a Canadian swimfest where she aimed to boost her Federation Internationale de Natation (FINA) points to earn a Universality place.

Though White made an impressive display in the said event, her fellow Filipina Kayla Sanchez notched the highest points in the category which meant the latter would secure her Paris ticket along with Jarod Hatch.

“Thank you to the coaching staff and the team at Duke for making me feel welcome and directing me throughout this process. GO BLUE DEVILS!” she concluded.

Last February, White alongside Jasmine Mojdeh and Jamesray Ajido impressed in the 11th Asian Age Group Swimming Championships in New Clark City.

Ajido took three medals, including the lone gold for the Philippines, a silver and bronze, while White copped two bronze medals and Mojdeh with a bronze.
