China supports Marcos' ban on POGOs

China is supporting President Marcos' decision to ban all Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGO) in the country.

In a statement, the Chinese Embassy in Manila said Marcos' move "echoes the call of the Philippine people and serves the common interests of people of both countries."

In China, all forms of gambling are illegal.

"POGO breeds serious crimes and gravely undermines the interests of both Philippine and Chinese peoples," the embassy said.

"In line with this commitment, China is ready to continue its strong law enforcement cooperation with the Philippines and better protect the safety and well-being of the two peoples," it added.

During his third State of the Nation Address (SONA), Marcos announced the banning of POGO implementation in the country as he lamented all the crimes surrounding the industry that have been "disguising as legitimate entities."

"Disguising as legitimate entities, their operations have ventured into elicit areas furthest from gaming such as financial scamming, money laundering, prostitution, human trafficking, kidnapping, brutal torture, even murder," he said.

Marcos stressed that the "disrespect to our laws" must stop. In order to do this, the operations of POGOs should end starting July 22.
